DENTAL CLEANING

Although a proper at-home regimen is a necessity to maintain healthy teeth and gums, there’s only so much that a toothbrush and floss can accomplish. To reach and clean areas a toothbrush can’t, a professional dental cleaning is needed at least once or twice a year depending upon your oral health conditions. Dr. Gore’s office performs this routine procedure for patients of all ages. The goal is to help patients maintain their teeth and gums for a beautiful GOREgeous Smile and superior oral health for a lifetime. As part of preventative dental care, cleaning helps preserve teeth for a lifetime to avoid painful procedures that could have been prevented with regular cleanings. We also now have so much more information from research that shows a high correlation between gum health and overall general health; in other words poor oral health can lead to increase risk of heart disease and diabetes and especially with women for preeclampsia.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Dental cleanings usually start with an examination of the patient’s teeth. During the examination, the dentist will look for any signs of damage, cavities, or decay. The patient’s teeth are cleaned to remove any plaque and tartar buildup, followed by a deep clean and polish with professional dental tools. The patient will have the opportunity to discuss the health status of their teeth with their dentist as well as discuss home dental health suggestions.

TREATMENT AFTERCARE

After receiving cleaning services at the dental office, patients should maintain optimal oral hygiene using the recommendations provided by the hygienist during their treatment. Patients should brush their teeth at least twice a day, floss at least daily especially at night before bedtime, use a mouthwash if recommended by their hygienist. Many times the hygienist will tailor a regimen for your individual needs to maintain the best possible oral health you can have.

ANTICIPATED COSTS

Considered a form of preventative health care, most insurance companies cover some, if not all of the cost of a routine cleaning. Our office will check with your insurance policy before sending a bill to the patient of any remaining payment due. The overall cost for a cleaning varies among dental practices and is also determined based on the condition of the patient’s teeth and gums.
